The Enugu SME Center has taken its digital empowerment campaign to new heights with a successful sensitization tour at Bishop Shanahan College of Medicine, Nsukka, under the Enugu Tech Talent (ETT) Program. The outreach marks another milestone in the state’s efforts to bridge the gap between medicine and technology.
As part of the ongoing statewide initiative, the visit by Enugu SME aimed to inspire and inform students about the intersection of digital skills and healthcare innovation.
Despite their medical focus, the students warmly received the message, demonstrating keen interest in how technology—particularly artificial intelligence and data analytics—can revolutionize medical practice, research, and health policy.
Chioma Uchechukwu, a 23-year-old medical student from Nsukka Urban, voiced her enthusiasm after the session.
“Before today, I thought tech was just for coders. Now I know how important data analysis and AI are in modern medicine. I’m definitely applying. This could change my career path,” she said.
Another participant, Samuel Okeke, 24, from Obollo-Afor in Udenu LGA, shared a similar sentiment:
“No one had ever come to our school to speak about tech programs like this. Learning product management for free is an opportunity I never imagined. I’m grateful Enugu State is thinking about us.”
During the sensitization, students were introduced to the six high-demand courses offered under the fully-funded ETT Program. The session included a step-by-step guide on the application process, interactive Q&A on balancing tech training with academic commitments, and insights into career opportunities—including jobs, internships, and entrepreneurship—for non-tech professionals.
This initiative aligns with Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s vision of building a digitally inclusive Enugu, where students across all fields can access global opportunities through technology.
The Enugu SME Center expressed gratitude to the leadership and student union of Bishop Shanahan College of Medicine for their cooperation and warm hospitality during the visit.
The sensitization tour will continue with visits to other institutions, including the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), ESCET, Schools of Nursing, NYSC Secretariats, and faith-based centers like House on the Rock, among others.
Students and residents interested in participating are encouraged to apply for the free Enugu Tech Talent training via enugusme.en.gov.ng/ett.
