As preparations intensify for the third anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that several major infrastructure projects across Abuja have been completed and are ready for commissioning.
Wike made the declaration on Thursday after inspecting key road and infrastructure projects across the capital, describing them as visible proof of the administration’s commitment to delivering democratic dividends and modernising the FCT.
“Governance is about delivering results, and these projects are clear evidence of President Tinubu’s commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians. All the projects we inspected are 100 per cent ready for commissioning,” Wike said.
Among the projects inspected are the Jahi–Gwarimpa interchange, the Airport Expressway–Kuje Road, Kuje–Gwagwalada Road, the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) main carriageways, and the aesthetic redesign of the Abuja City Gate.
The minister expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work, noting that the infrastructure would significantly improve transportation and connectivity across both the city centre and satellite towns.
He highlighted the impact of the Airport–Kuje and Kuje–Gwagwalada roads, stating that travel time between the city centre and outlying communities has been drastically reduced.
“You can now drive from the city to Kuje in less than 25 minutes. This is what governance should be about—making life easier for the people and ensuring that development reaches every part of the territory,” he said.
Wike also praised the transformation of the Abuja City Gate, describing it as a landmark project that enhances the capital’s identity and global image.
“We are very happy, particularly with the City Gate. Anyone coming into Abuja will immediately appreciate the beauty and identity of the capital city. It is a landmark project that showcases the ongoing transformation of the FCT,” he added.
According to him, the commissioning programme is expected to begin next week, subject to final approval from the Presidency.
He revealed that key projects such as the Outer Southern Expressway extension and the Airport–Kuje Road are among those lined up for early commissioning, while others will be inaugurated by senior government officials representing the President.
“It is a comprehensive programme and Mr. President may not be able to personally commission all the projects. The Vice President, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, the First Lady and other senior officials will participate in the exercise,” he said.
Wike also disclosed plans to flag off additional road projects, including the Tunga Madaki–Zuba Road and other strategic infrastructure being handled by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), as part of ongoing efforts to expand Abuja’s road network.
He called on the media to highlight ongoing developments in the FCT, stressing that the scale of transformation reflects President Tinubu’s resolve to modernise the nation’s capital.
“You have seen the transformation yourselves. The media should help tell the story of what is happening in Abuja. These projects are changing both the city centre and the satellite towns, and residents are already beginning to feel the impact,” he said.
The minister commended contractors for adhering to timelines and delivering quality work, expressing optimism that the completed projects would stimulate economic activity and improve living standards across the Federal Capital Territory.
