The Enugu State Police Command says it will sustain its intensified crackdown on criminal elements across the state following a series of intelligence-led operations that led to the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and illicit drugs.
The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, made this known on June 4, 2026, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to proactive policing, intelligence-driven operations, and continuous pursuit of criminals.
He said the recent breakthroughs demonstrate the Command’s resolve to rid Enugu State of violent crime, noting that officers will not relent in sustained operations across identified criminal hotspots.
“This commitment was recently demonstrated through separate intelligence-guided operations that led to the arrest of three suspects linked to armed robbery, kidnapping, and illicit drug peddling, and the recovery of two firearms, six rounds of 9mm ammunition, one live cartridge, and large quantities of suspected illicit drugs,” the Command stated.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, the first operation occurred on May 30, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m., when operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), acting on credible intelligence, stormed a drinking spot along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway.
Two suspects, identified as Ogbonna Chinonso (22) and Nnachi Cypril (35), were arrested in connection with alleged armed robbery and kidnapping activities.
A search of the suspects reportedly led to the recovery of one locally made revolver pistol, one locally fabricated cut-to-size double-barrelled gun, six rounds of 9mm ammunition, and one live cartridge.
In a separate operation earlier the same day at about 4:30 p.m., VCRU operatives raided a suspected drug hideout in Trans-Ekulu, Enugu, where a suspect identified as Izunna Ani (36) was arrested.
Large quantities of substances suspected to be “Loud” and “Kolos” were recovered from him during the operation.
The Command said investigations are ongoing, adding that all suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of inquiries.
CP Giwa commended the operatives for their professionalism and vigilance, describing the operations as a reflection of the Command’s determination to sustain pressure on criminal networks.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies with credible and timely information to enhance public safety across the state.
