President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the 16-member Governing Council of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, appointing the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, as chairman.
The appointment was disclosed on Monday in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, the new council brings together key institutional stakeholders, including the Chairman of the Police Service Commission and the Inspector-General of Police.
It also includes representatives from critical ministries such as the Federal Ministry of Education, the Federal Ministry of Finance, and the Federal Ministry of Justice.
President Tinubu further approved the appointment of six members to represent the country’s six geopolitical zones on the council.
They include Babagana Zannah Adam (DCP, rtd.) representing the North East; Emmanuel Torkuma Manger for the North Central; Maigari Abati Dikko (DIG, rtd.) for the North West; Dubem A. Obaze (KSM) for the South East; Ajibogere Toyin for the South West; and Udom Udo Ekpoudom (DIG, rtd.) for the South South.
The Commandant of the Academy, the Provost, and the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of training will serve as ex-officio members, while the Registrar of the institution will act as secretary to the council.
The Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, is a degree-awarding institution mandated to train and equip officers of the Nigeria Police Force as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen professionalism and capacity within the country’s internal security architecture.
